Black is bad

I have been telling myself and my even darker progeny that colour doesn’t matter. And I do think I nearly had him bought in. Of course, these are inclusion and diversity times! #black #darkskinned #dusky

There are more folks cribbing that the balance is nearly tilting the other way. But, I started observing more carefully. Nearly every pathetic movie I saw that had a rich person and not so rich person – WHITE! And BLACKKKKK

A movie that spoke about a former legendary leader – had a prince – WHITE and a poor kid – BLACK!

God! Oops wait a moment even God’s everywhere were white’ish and the ones who weren’t were BLUE!!!

So, anything but black, when it comes to skin. When it comes to fashion, it’s another matter. From the ubiquitous little black dress to corporate black suits to favourite black T-shirt’s, this colour is a staple in everyone’s Sartorial repertoire.

Then came the day when my child said as he was walking by, older kids whispered, “that little black kid…why is he so dark”?

He asked me, I love myself and the way I look; but mummy, do you think life would have been a bit easier if I was lighter skinned?

Of course, I work on his confidence and he is such a gorgeous kid. But I do wonder what the real answer is to his question. The good part is when I walk into a shop, sales people don’t really pester me as much. I’m sure I don’t look rich enough to buy that solitaire that I just did!
